Chela Demuir
is the Founder & Executive Director of Unique Woman's Coalition (UWC), a direct response organization that addresses the needs of Black Trans communities in Los Angeles. She serves as the National Advocacy Director for FLUX, an organization that creates safe spaces for Trans and Gender Non-Conforming people.

“I’ve been a community mother since the early eighties. It just sort of propelled me into the work that I’m doing, it’s sort of like being the keeper of the children. … At UWC we try to be the voice for black trans culture here in Los Angeles. And now that we’re formalized and now that we have office space, now black trans culture has symbolically arrived. … I’m really ecstatic just thinking about our future.”
