AIDS Archive Activism

When archives are activated by activists they present fresh and radical histories of AIDS and serve as vital and transformative resources that can inspire community, care, and new activism. Metanoia is archive activism in action, an exhibition about AIDS activism that focuses on the meaningful and life changing contributions of Black women, women of color, and trans women activists.

As a collective we approached our curation with an an understanding that archiving and presenting Black lives, queer lives, people of color lives, the lives of people in jail and prison  is activism, an act of empowerment and resistance that will fuel current and future generations. The Judy Greenspan papers and other holdings of the LGBT Center National History Archive and those of the ONE National Gay & Lesbian Archives at the USC Libraries, secure records that matter for our communities.
