Contemporary HIV/AIDS Activism

Today, AIDS-related deaths and HIV infections are the consequence of inequities that require our unified, social-political action. Much organizing and activist work is fixed on ensuring people living with HIV have consistent access to medications to achieve viral suppression that ensures access to robust social services around housing, nutrition access, and other needs that are necessary to successfully treat HIV and maintain viral suppression. The work calls for us to challenge systems responsible for leaving many vulnerable communities outside of interventions and tools needed to end AIDS.

People need access to healthcare, and prevention methods like PrEP and condoms. Additionally, people living with HIV across the US need to know that they will not be criminalized for their status. HIV criminalization laws drive the epidemic.

White supremacy, capitalism, and anti-LGBTQ frameworks allow the crisis to thrive. Contemporary HIV / AIDS activism adress the systems that cause harm, while supporting community. As part of this work, WWHIVDD understands that we have a moral obligation to do the work that allows for Metanoia for all.
